The main museums in Toulouse include the Musée Labit, the Musée St. Raymond, and also the Paul Depuy Museum, all of which are described in detail below.

Musée Labit

Named after Georges Labit, a local 19th-century collector of exotic artefacts, this museum offers a fascinating insight into his collection and travels. The objects which he brought back to Toulouse are housed here in this Moorish pavilion near the Canal du Midi. The Musée Labit offers a panorama of 3,000 years of art and artefacts from all over Asia and Africa, from Egyptian mummies to Indian woodcarvings and Samurai masks.
Open hours: Wednesday to Monday, October to May - 10:00 to 1700; June to September - 10.00 to 18.00

Musée St. Raymond

Located conveniently close to the St. Sernin Basilica, the Musée St. Raymond features a worldwide reputation for its remarkably fine collection of Roman sculptures. This includes reliefs of the Tasks of Hercules, medallions of the gods and an emperors' gallery. Jewellery dating back to the Gauls and early Christian sarchophagi also form part of this museum's collection.
Open hours: daily, June to August - 10:00 to 19:00; September to May - 10:00 to 18:00

On display amidst the elegant surroundings of one of Toulouse's grand mansions, Hôtel de Besson, are numerous examples of gold pieces, pottery, glass, ironwork and textiles, dating from as far back as the 14th century. Visitors to the Paul Depuy Museum will also be interested to discover a collection of items associated with meteorology, coins and seals, as well as drawings, engraving and posters by artists from Toulouse and elsewhere in the region.
